I'm a resident from BC. How does one from BC hunt Pronghorn in Alberta or any other province if there are any in any others. My understanding is that it's like LEH draw. But unsure of Alberta's rules for non resident hunters and draw system.

2021.10.18 02:51 MemoryHold Some interesting water related UFO cases from the 1700-1800s

I've long been a fan of scanning very old newspaper archives for possible anomalous events - especially in the timeframe predating the advent of aviation. I wanted to share a few of those with you today.
The first one is from a book titled: Phosphorescence: Or, The Emission of Light by Minerals, Plants, and Animals by Thomas Lamb Phipson, and recounts a story from 1852 or 1853. Here is an excerpt:

It was in the month of September, 1852 or 1853, and the phenomenon was observed about eight o'clock in the evening....He was being rowed by four stout men from Torrin, in the Isle of Skye, to one of the opposite shores. On entering Loch Scavig the boat containing Mr. Edwards, his friend Mr. Raymond, four boatmen, and a guide, steered across the little bay situated on their right, when a light was distinctly seen at a great distance to the seaward. At first it appeared like the light from the cabin window of a steamboat being near to the surface of the water, and moving with great rapidity towards them. The four men at the oars noticed it with evident alarm, and spoke hurriedly to each other in Gaelic. When the guide was asked what they were talking about, he answered, “About yon light; it's no canny thing, neither.”
The rapidity with which the light moved, and its proximity to the boat after a few seconds had elapsed, fully convinced every one that it belonged to no boat; besides, as the guide remarked, “no bird could fly so quick.” It appears that this phenomenon, which I believe to have been globular lightning, is not unprecedented in the neighbourhood of Loch Scavig; for though the four oarsmen had never witnessed it before, they had heard it spoken of on the land as betokening evil, and were so much afraid of it that they pulled the boat along most lustily. The light curved off and was soon lost to sight, having been in view and indeed very near to the boat, for about two minutes.
What do you think? Ball Lightning, or something more mysterious? Further down the same page there is another bit:
Such was the case on the 4th November, 1749, in 42° 48' latitude north and 111° longitude west of Paris : a few minutes before mid-day, and in perfectly serene weather, a large bluish globe of fire rolled up to the ship the 'Montague,' and exploded, shattering one of the masts. This globe of fire appeared as large as a millstone. A strong sulphurous” odour was perceived in the ship for some time afterwards. The light described to me by Mr. Edwards appears to have been some such phenomenon, and had he and his companions seen the end of it, the fears of the boatmen might have been realized.
I suppose this could be something like ball lightning or some other natural event. After all, it is in a book that documents such events, and surely they are more educated than I on the matter. However, some are not so easy to write off:
This next one comes from The Diary of Andrew Bloxam, a naturalist and botanist who embarked on a sea voyage around South America from 1824 to 1826. The following event occurred on August 12th of one of those years (sorry I forget the exact year and I'm getting sleepy...also, his diary can be found here:
August 12, About half-past three o clock this morning the middle watch on deck was astonished to find everything around them suddenly illuminated. Turning their eyes to the eastward they beheld a large, round, luminous body rising up about seven degrees apparently from the water to the clouds, and falling again out of sight, and a second time rising and falling. It was the color of a red hot shot and appeared about the size of the sun. It was only visible for a few seconds and after its final departure some rays of light were seen in the same direction. It was probably a meteor or a fireball. No sound was heard.
A meteor or fireball doesn't sound too outlandish an explanation, but what explains the fact that this object apparently came from the water and twice rose and fell? A trick of the eyes? A mistake in perception? Bear in mind that navigators of the sea in those years are probably quite proficient at travelling using stars and other forms of directional navigation, identifying a variety of objects on the water, and other things that may prevent misidentifying something as common as a meteor, something they most likely saw on multiple occasions (albeit maybe not as bright or spectacular).
This next one is from a book titled "Handbook of Unusual Natural Phenomena" by William R. Corliss published in 1977, and covers an event that occurred in 1887:
The following report from the Hydrographic Office relates to one of the rarest and most inexplicable forms of lightning. Can any of the readers of Science give any information on the subject? A globe of fire floats leisurely along in the air in an erratic sort of a course, sometimes exploding with great force, at other times disappearing without exploding. On land it has been observed to go into the ground and then reappear at a short distance, and where it entered the soil it left a rugged hole some twenty feet in diameter. Although there is no doubt as to the facts regarding the phenomenon, no satisfactory explanation of the cause has ever been given.
It is of course, entirely different in character from St. Elmo's fires, so often seen on ’ board vessels during thunder-storms: these remain stationary at the yard-arms and mast-heads, and are analogous to the 'brush discharge' of an electric machine.
Captain Moore, British steamship 'Siberian, ' reports, "Nov. 12 midnight Cape Race bearing west by north, distant ten miles, wind strong south’by east, a large ball of fire appeared to rise out of the sea to a height of about fifty feet, and come [rl .ff agal ? - text transcription error] St the Wind close up to tbe ship- It then altered its course, and ran along with the ship to a distance of about one and one-half miles. In about two minutes it again altered its course, and went away to the south-east against the wind. It lasted in all, not over five minutes. Have noticed the same phenomenon before off Cape.
Once more, do you think this is ball lightning? Could be! Would love to hear your thoughts.
This next one is really interesting, as the testimony is not in the context of "globular lightning" and strange "natural" occurrences as were the previous incidents. This is from a New Zealand newspaper, issue 5417 and was published on September 17th, 1885. It was featured on page 3, and reads as follows:
Some shepherds who were recently burning tussocks on the edge of Lake Pukaki, in the Mackenzie Country, state that about dusk in the evening they observed a large black object, which they at first took to be a boat, keel upwards. On approaching it, however, it turned round, and dashed into the water, making a great splash.
Short and sweet! What could it be? Maybe just a simple boat of some sort? If so, it makes one wonder why these witnesses could not recognize a boat, and felt compelled to share their story - and why a newspaper deemed this testimony worthy of publication. Could all of these eyewitnesses be lying? Possibly - however stories like this told publicly back in those days seem to be risky to ones reputation, more so than it would be even twenty years ago. Interesting!
Now this one is one of my favorites.Published by Nature July 24, 1879 - this features testimony of a luminous wheel travelling under water. Check it out:
The following report to the Admiralty has been communicated to us for publication by Capt. Evans, C.B, F.R.S, the Hydrographer to the Navy -
Sir, I have the honour to inform you that at about 940pm on May 15....on a clear, unclouded, starlight night.....an unusual phenomenon was seen from the vessel.
I noticed luminous waves or pulsations in the water, moving at great speed and passing under the ship from south-south-west. On looking toward the east, the appearance was that of a revolving wheel with centre on that bearing, and whose spokes were illuminated, and looking towards the west a similar wheel appeared to be revolving, but in the opposite direction. I then went to the mizen top (fifty feet above water) with the first lieutenant, and saw that the luminous waves or pulsations were really travelling parallel to each other, and that their apparently rotatory motion, as seen from the deck, was caused by their high speed and greater angular motion of the nearer than the more remote part of the waves.
The light of these waves looked homogeneous, and lighter, but not so sparkling as phosphorescent appearances at sea usually are, and extended from the surface well under water; they lit up the whit ebottoms of the quarter-boats in passing. I judged them to be twenty five feet broad, with dark intervals of about seventy five between each, or 100 from crest to crest.
My first thought while reading this was phosphorence of some sort, but it's interesting that this gentleman seems well aware of how that phenomena appears, and mentions that this anomaly looked different. What're your thoughts on this one?
21st May 1909
"Airship Scare: More Midnight Flights"
This story seems to be one of many eyewitness accounts (I think?) from what seems to be the famous wave of sightings in the late 1890s of an "airship" across the country.
Anyway, I hope you all enjoyed these! I have many more in my collection, but I'm starting to get sleepy and wanted to at least give you a few cool stories before I sleep. What are your thoughts on these? Are these worthy of consideration? Do they meet the standards of criteria to be considered true anomalous events? Are they to be discarded due to their age, and the fact they are only eyewitness testimonies? I must admit, some of the other testimonies I have from the 1700-1800s are really compelling - stories of "meteors" changing direction and speed while disrupting compasses, multiple reports of sulphur smells after the incidents, extreme speeds (after hovering), objects emerging from the water and flying upward - real strange stuff. UFO incidents involving the water have always been some of my favorites.

2021.10.18 02:51 My_Man_Tyrone The valorant RR award system is very brokem

The way that Valorant awards RR is really broken. Losing takes away the progress of 2 games so it is really hard to advance at all in the act. The best way I find to advance is to place high in the start of the act because there is veryy little chance that you will rank up during the act if you are low elo. The way taht Riot should do it is either keep it as is but earn more RR if you win or change it so you lose less RR if you lose.

2021.10.18 02:51 JakeTimesTwo “Language dysphoria”

so I am currently learning Russian and have been doing so for about 6 months. I am by no means fluent but I can easily read Cyrillic and can understand and speak the words I know well. The problem is I started learning Russian as a joke with my friends and now that I’m learning more about languages and stuff I’m not very interested in Russian anymore and would rather be spending my language brains somewhere else. The thing that started this “language dysphoria” as I like to call it was when I was researching EF language abroad courses and saw the country’s (not Russia) that they offered and I thought going somewhere like Tokyo or Paris and learning Japanese or French would be something I would rather do. But then when I think about it I start to feel bad about leaving the Russian language and my Russian friends (Via Hello Talk) behind. You know?
To sum it up I don’t know wtf to do and I want to know if anyone can relate to this and/or anyone has any advice/ insight about this darn “language dysphoria”
